Government does not interfere in the working of Enforcement Directorate: Sitharaman
Sitharaman told reporters during an event near Pune that the ED works only when there is a suspicion of money laundering.
ED comes under the Ministry of Finance.
Asked about the Enforcement Directorate’s action against leaders of opposition parties, he said the probe agency knows its responsibility and the government does not interfere in its functioning.
Sitharaman said, “Try to understand the way ED works. When this incident happens, he does not reach the scene of the incident. When a case of violation of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act comes, only then its role starts.
It is noteworthy that opposition parties have often been accusing the central government of misusing investigative agencies, including the ED, to target political rivals.
