Raju had carved a niche in the stand-up comedy world on the strength of his jokes. He rose to fame with the first of its kind stand-up comedy talent hunt show ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’, the first season of which premiered in 2005. Apart from this, he had worked in Hindi films like ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, ‘Baazigar’, ‘Bombay to Goa’ (remake) and ‘Aamdani Athani Kharcha Rupaiya’.

Raju’s cousin had told that he was working out as usual. He suddenly collapsed while running on the treadmill. It was later revealed that he had suffered a heart attack. He was immediately taken to AIIMS Hospital. About a month and a half had passed, he had not regained consciousness.

According to a report in Economics Times, Raju’s daughter Antara had told PTI that she had not regained consciousness after the heart attack. He was breathing but his body was not working. His brain was not working either.
